Pictures From the Zoo

Yesterday we went to the Como Park Zoo over in St. Paul. with the daytime temp of 99, the dew point at 70, and not a cloud in the sky, taking good pictures was a challange. Inside, the lights are low and the glass was obscured by the fingerprints of hundreds of sweaty little children, (which is a good thing). Outside, most of the animals were hiding from the sun back in the deepest shade of their area. And of course, there is not much shade for the people walking around. Anyway, here are some of the pictures that somewhat turned out. Firs is one of the male lions, taken through glass in a very dim indoor exhibit. I was amazed that this turned out as well as it did. Click any of the pics for full size.

The one thing better than standing in the humidity was cooling off in the pool.

Oh-oh, he has decided to come out and get us!

With the temperature approaching 100 degrees F, this ostrich was telling everybody to head for the shade!

Once in a while, you get a chance to get a shot that just tells the story better without words:

And, finally, going with the trend of pictures that make it look that something is happening when it is not, how about a baby giraffe kissing a pole:
